Water Fun

COED program developed by the Titans in 2013, targeted at ages 5 to 8 who are not yet strong enough swimmers to join the ILWP or ‘Swim and Play’ programs. The Water Fun program is divided into two levels, with each practice of 45-minutes duration.  Note that both levels may be combined at some pools.  Each practice will include work on aquatic skills as well as free play to develop some basic water polo related skills. New players are welcome throughout the year.

Water Fun Level I (5 to 7 years old) – We strongly recommend that a parent participate in the classes and be within arm’s reach of their child.  This is not only for safety reasons but also, as a first-time introduction to the aquatic environment for some children, the parent’s presence helps provide a more comforting experience in the water.  In this program, participants will learn basic water skills, providing a jump-start to the aquatic environment which will form a strong basis for the development of more advanced swimming skills.  Game play will be used to build their confidence in the water.

Water Fun Level II (6 to 8 years old) – At this level, participants will develop basic swimming skills.  Building on the skills acquired in Water Fun 1, this is where the children will first experience the sport of water polo in a fun environment.  Minimum requirement: the child must be comfortable in the shallow-end without a parent and without a flotation device.

These programs run from September to May.

Swim and Play

Strengthen Swimming and Water Polo Skills

This COED program brings two incredible sports together!  It gives girls and boys, ages 7 to 11 a chance to experience swimming and water polo!  The Swim and Play program is divided into two levels.  Each level has 90-minute practices, including 60 minutes of swimming and 30 minutes of fun water polo scrimmage.  The program will focus on several essential skills such as water safety, swim strokes, diving, strength and endurance, ball handling and basic tactical skills.  This program provides our athletes the required strength, technique and confidence required for the next level program, I Love Water Polo.

Why not help your child develop an aquatic life beyond simple swimming lessons!  Who knows, maybe they will love pushing themselves to get stronger and faster, and love working as part of a team in the demanding, fast-paced game of water polo.  No matter what their preference, your child will come out of this program a much stronger swimmer.  New participants are welcome throughout the year.

Academy

Train to become a Competitive Water Polo Athlete

This COED program introduces children ages 9 – 15 to competitive water polo. Emphasis is placed on the development of fundamental water polo skills, tactics and fitness required to succeed in competitive water polo. This program corresponds to the ‘training to train’ phase of the Long-Term Athlete Development model (LTAD). Team building, discipline, personal growth and elementary tactics are key learning objectives of this program. No water polo experience is necessary, but players should be very good deep-water swimmers and be ready to train in a more structured environment. An evaluation of the player’s current abilities and overall potential will first be performed by the team Coach to ensure that the player is ready to participate in the Academy. Provided that COVID-19 restrictions permit it, Academy players will have the opportunity to participate in invitational and Provincial tournaments and championships. This program includes four (Academy A) or three (Academy B) practices per week.  Again, depending on COVID-19 restrictions, this program also offers Mini National Capital Water Polo League (Mini-NCWPL) games on some Sunday nights at the Nepean Sportsplex.  New players are welcome throughout the year.

The program runs from September to May.
